The following are Membership
categories in AAMFT. Joining AAMFT automatically
gets you membership in NAMFT. Membership requirements and
application information can be found on the AAMFT Web Site. Click here for
a direct link to
the application area.
AAMFT has a membership category for you, whether you are a budding student, a
seasoned marriage and family therapist, or a mental health professional who
wants to learn more about marriage and family therapy. Once members have achieved one level of membership, they can work towards the next level of
membership and transfer when they have met the requirements.

Clinical Membership
Clinical Members meet the full set of requirements established by the AAMFT
for the independent practice of marriage and family therapy. |

Associate Membership
Associate Members have completed a graduate degree in marriage and family
therapy or a related mental health field and are in the process of earning
the clinical experience necessary for AAMFT Clinical Membership and/or
licensure as a marriage and family therapist. |

Student Membership
Student Members are currently enrolled in programs leading to a graduate
degree or post-graduate certificate in marriage and family therapy or a
related mental health field. |
 |
Affiliate Membership
Affiliate Membership is for mental health professionals and allied health
professionals who are not pursuing an MFT license, but want to develop their
skills in marriage and family therapy. The AAMFT does not review the credentials of affiliate membership applicants. |
